The Northern Lights and other wonders of the world

Aurora Borealis

The Aurora Borealis also known as the Northern Lights can actually be seen from multiple countries, depending on your preferences. Scandinavia and Iceland are the best bets and have the most to do beyond simply seeing the lights. It all depends on the time of year. This display occurs due to disturbances in the magnetosphere caused by the solar wind. This only happens in countries with high altitudes. They can appear in many colors, green, blue, pink and even red – the type of gas is what affects the color. Sometimes it is oxygen and sometimes nitrogen. However, the lights are not as colorful to the human eye, they are much paler.

Rio Harbour

Rio de Janeiro is home to many sights and attractions, but its harbor ranks first on the list of seven wonders of the world. It contains the largest amount of water in the world located in the bay. You can take a ferry from one side to the other or a taxi across the bridge that connects the two sides. From the harbor you can also see the famous statue: Christ the Redeemer. A truly magnificent location with many things to do on either side.

Great Barrier Reef

Known as one of the world’s eco hotspots, a biodiversity hotspot, Queensland’s Great Barrier Reef is not only the world’s largest coral reef system, but actually contains three thousand solo reefs and an additional nine hundred islands. Tourists and divers are attracted to this place, people come from far and wide to witness the marine life – fish, corals and other species found here to show the beauty of the reef and its inhabitants.

Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls, located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, is one of the most magnificent water attractions and sites in the world. It is the largest waterfall, but not the highest. You can see the falls from either country, but many venture into the ‘Devil’s Pool’, which is a low-current pool on the edge where you can sit and see right over the edge – not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. In addition, you can bungee jump over the waterfall – an experience of a lifetime. Both African countries offer excellent food and numerous tourist activities.
