The New Norm: How Our Lifestyles Are Changing Due to the Global Pandemic

Now there is no need to go into detail about this virus which has basically taken over the world and completely changed our lives. Even though we are one year into this major pandemic, many of us are still taking the time to adjust to the radical lifestyle changes that the virus has brought to us. Despite the fact that there is a glimmer of hope with talk of a new vaccine, everyone is still being forced to change their definition of ‘normal life’. Of course, people have tried their best to adjust to the new norm, but of course, it still has a huge impact on the well-being of many people. Look how we all have to change our lifestyle because of COVID-19.

Reduced Travel

Gone are the days when traveling was a luxury or looking forward to an annual family vacation. Due to the massive travel restrictions that have been imposed almost all over the world, it is not easy to just hop on a plane to visit family and friends or even just lie on the beach. Many airports and borders around the world have been closed to try and limit the spread of the virus. We can only hope that these limitations will be slowly lifted in the safest way possible.

Mandatory Face Mask

Wearing a mask has become a natural thing for everyone. Sometimes it’s even hard to remember what life is like without having to remember to wear a mask every time you leave the house. However, people have really turned this “annoyance” into a positive. How? It doesn’t matter if you opt for disposable or reusable masks, now it’s becoming very trendy to match them with your outfit today. Go!

Education

Education as we know it has changed significantly over the past year. Most schools and universities have moved to online platforms, and this is not only for high school students but also for 5 or 6 year olds. This might be a great way to deal with the situation … in first world countries but what about people who live in poorer parts of the world and don’t have access to the internet or computers? Studies have shown that education around the world has been seriously negatively impacted. So, we can only hope that things will get better, especially for our next generation.

How We Socialize

We’re definitely not saying that all the other changes we have to make are difficult, but around the world, it seems like a lot of people are having the most trouble with these changes. The way we socialize has changed dramatically and the main buzzword everyone uses is social distance. In essence, no more large gatherings, meaning (for now) we have to say goodbye by attending concerts, museums, cafes, and even shopping centers. Yet it seems that so many people struggle with not being able to visit their loved ones, especially those who are elderly, pregnant, or have health conditions.
