Stay healthy while traveling with these expert tips

No matter what type of trip you’re on, things can easily stress you out—even on vacation. Of course, traveling can do some harm to your health. From losing sleep to running around all day and trying to keep up with plans, it’s easy to get carried away with things and forget to take care of yourself while you’re on the road. So, we’ve found some great tips to help you stay healthy while traveling.

get some sleep

Whenever you have some downtime, make sure to get some sleep. Whether it’s on a flight or in a car, getting enough sleep is crucial to your health. Physically traveling, crossing different time zones, carrying luggage and walking all day can also be tough on your body. Simply put, listen to your body.

Drink plenty of water

Wherever you go, always remember to carry a water bottle with you. We know trying to find a public restroom can be inconvenient at times, but don’t let that stop you from drinking! Staying hydrated will not only be healthier for you, but it will help you prevent constipation and reduce jetlag. Not to mention, the new climate has more of an impact on your hydration levels than you might realize. Just be sure to start the day with plenty of water, so you’ll remember to drink throughout the day.

expand

When you have a full day of activities ahead of you, it’s important to set aside some time in the morning to stretch a little. Take 5-10 minutes to stretch your whole body and prepare you for the day. In addition to energizing you, regular stretching will help you release tension in the body and in turn help you sleep better. It’s a win-win!

Walk as much as you can

Get more activity into your day by walking most places. That way, you’ll be able to stay active while knowing the area you’re staying in.

Get some exercise

Even though you’re on vacation, don’t let that stop you from your workout routine. It may seem obvious, but if you’re not doing anything active, make sure to include a workout in your day. Besides keeping your body healthy, exercise will also help you feel better mentally.

eat breakfast

It can be tempting to start your day right away, but we don’t recommend it. Make sure to eat a good breakfast first. Your best bet is to eat at the hotel you stay at. Try adding protein like eggs or Greek yogurt and fiber like fruits and vegetables. By doing this you will feel full and get energy as well. In fact, the more vegetables the better.

Protect your skin

You may be spending more time outdoors while on vacation, so prepare accordingly. Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 15. If you can, reapply every two hours when outdoors.

Do a digital detox

To really get the most out of your vacation, limit your screen time. Not only will this keep you from focusing on work when you should be relaxing, but you’ll also be less stressed about keeping up with social media and everything else. Limiting your screen time will really make a difference in your state of mind.
